Homestead project

St Joseph's School

Bermondsey

Project Scope: Re-build & Refurbishments to School

Contract Value: £2.5m

Project Duration: 100 weeks

We were originally contracted under Standard JCT to rebuild 40% of the school due to Fire damage. The fire damage meant six classrooms had to be replaced initially, this meant the children were temporarily housed in cabins on the playground, which were not fit for purpose. The main objective was to complete the new classrooms to get the children back into a more appropriate and comfortable learning environment, which included a new first floor and roof structure (Grade ll Listed), reformation of classrooms and access to these areas. Subsequently, due to our success on the original project and the strong client relationship we built, the school wanted four further classrooms in a top floor extension, to increase their intake for the next school year.

The school also wanted various improvements made to their existing facilities, to improve the learning experience for their students. This included a brand new IT Suite, Library, full commercial Kitchen with new drainage to basement and Staff Rooms, Offices and Medical room. Externally, we created a MUGA/3G Pitch, Nursery playground with soft play, purpose-built maze with live pond and bridge, amphitheatre, primary school playground with soft play & new tarmac surfacing, glass roof canopies and external storage areas. For the on-site Nursery, we also provided reconfiguration and refurbishment throughout, and installed DDA compliant access ramps.
