Homestead project

Community Centre

Cotton Lane, Dartford

Project Scope: New Build Community Centre

Contract Value: £1.1m

Project Duration: 52 weeks

As main contractor, contracted under Design & Build, we constructed a new build multi-use community hall, campground and landscaping. The project included a large 250 person capacity hall, seminar room, large commercial kitchen and breakout dining space, washing facilities and was fully DDA compliant throughout.

Stone Parish Council wanted a new sustainably built and environmentally friendly multi-use hall for the local community. Facilities were to be shared by a number of different groups and clubs, along with external hire for various functions, so the design and finish had to be inclusive and appropriate for all. Sustainable technologies were to be used including Mechanical ventilation heating and air-cooling system, solar PV panels, rainwater harvesting and provision for future electric vehicle charging points to be installed. The design also encouraged sustainable travel by foot or bicycle, requiring a large provision of bicycle parking.

There were several challenges on this site, which required collaboration with various authorities such as National Rail, KCC Highways and Thames Water. Early engagement with these authorities meant we could mitigate any delays to the project progress, and ensure we adhered to all necessary requirements.
